Portsmouth Naval Shipyard MHSA Field Trip
PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD WELCOMES THE MHSA

As part of our activities this year, we have arranged for a private historical tour of the Shipyard in April.  This event requires that we send the names of all attending for "approval" to be
on the base.

ALL individuals touring the shipyard MUST present an approved current photo ID
           before entering the base.

Approved photo ID for US citizens: US passport, US state driver's license, college ID.

Approved photo ID for foreign nationals: valid passport from country of citizenship.

You should include photo ID information in your RSVP email message (see below).

Some Details:

Date:  Saturday, April 21, 2012
Time:  8:45 AM to 2:30 PM
Cost: $12 per person (to be paid in advance) plus lunch .
Parking: Cars will be parked at the Kittery Post Office. Leave cars on the bank side of
the lot so as to not interfere with Post Office parking.

Tour:

8:45 AM - Bus leaves Kittery Post Office for tour of shipyard

The tour involves a slide presentation in the auditorium, a visit to the museum, and a
ride around the perimeter of the base. (We actually won't be on the bus very much.)  We
will not be allowed to view the "working area" of the shipyard where the subs and naval
          vessels are berthed.

12 Noon - Break for lunch in the Shipyard Dining Room. Price TBD soon.

1 PM (more or less) - Tour of US Coast Guard Cutter (a Cutter IS scheduled to be in port on
April 21).  If no Cutter is in port, our day will end after lunch.

2:30 PM - Board bus for return to cars

I am told that this tour is not suitable for children but none will be turned away.  If you
have kids/grandkids who love looking at old buildings and listening to an adult talk
history go for it - but it is not recommended.

This is an active military installation, and hopefully we will not be forced to reschedule.

Right now I need a head count and money for the bus. Please email me (click on RSVP button below) if you are will be coming to the Shipyard tour.

Be sure to include the following information in your
RSVP message for each person in  your party:

          • Country of Citizenship
          • Short description of  approved current photo ID
              (passport, driver's license, college id)
          • Name as it appears on the photo ID
          • Full Legal  Name

Bring a check  covering the bus rental ($12 per person)  to the upcoming Cabin Fever Brunch (hope you have signed up for it). If you are not coming to the Cabin Fever Brunch, please mail your check to our treasurer Roger Francoeur at the address below.

There are no refunds for this event since we need to prepay the bus rental.

All RSVPs and all checks must be RECEIVED by Friday February 24, 2012.

It there are seats available on the bus after the February 24 deadline, we will extend the tour to include friends of members. Friends of members will also have to providde valid photo IDs.

         See you soon!
